Community Service - PPOC

During the first week of Semester 6, we were asked to have a site visit at PPOC Centre to have our project brief. The project is about renovate and design a classroom for the disable people who study and staying there. We were divided into few different groups in order to finish the project, which are the Wall and Floor Transformation group, Furniture Repairing group, Learning Kit design group and Photography and Video group. I was involved in the furniture group, our job is to repair and upgrade the furniture to provide a better quality of study equipment for the disabled user. Our first task is to measure all the furniture there including tables, chairs and shelves. Besides, we also have a chance to visit the disabled students there to help us understand more about their needs.

After we done the measurement, we have to discuss and come out with a design proposal on how we going to upgrade the site. We suggested to buy them new chairs as most of the existing chair have already very old and damaged. For the tables, we planned to just laminate the table top instead of buying a new one in order to save our costing budget. Furthermore, due to the existing book shelf is very old and damaged, we went to survey the book shelf price and decided to buy a new one.
